At least two people have been killed and six injured in a "massive" overnight Ukrainian drone attack on the Moscow region, Governor Andrei Vorobyev has said.
Vorobyev reported that 249 drones had been shot down, causing fires in several residential houses and damaging a local warehouse. In Moscow, an oil refinery was damaged, leading to flight restrictions at two airports.
A Ukraine official earlier reported seven deaths, including two children, from Russian attacks on Saturday in Kyiv and Sumy regions.
Russia and Ukraine have intensified their strikes on each other's infrastructure, targeting energy facilities, transport hubs, and logistics centers.
In a Telegram post, Vorobyev confirmed that:
- A 44-year-old woman was killed in Sofyino after a drone hit a residential building. Five others were injured, including two children.
- An elderly man died in the Orekhovo-Zuevo district when his private house was struck.
Videos shared on social media appear to show explosions overnight and a burning warehouse, although their authenticity has not been verified by the BBC.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported that 152 drones were shot down heading for Moscow. Sheremetyevo airport, Moscow's busiest, warned of "temporary restrictions", while all flights were halted at Vnukovo airport.
In Ukraine, a mother and her two young children were killed in Fastiv city, Kyiv regional head Tymur Tkachenko said, with several houses damaged. Four people died when a Russian drone struck a car in the Sumy region, according to local official Oleh Hryhorov.
Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
