UK NATS Announces Flight Processing System Technical Fault Resolved

Flights are expected to remain affected today as airlines and airports work through a major backlog of delayed flights.
LONDON, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 9th Sep, 2026) The UK’s National Air Traffic Services (NATS) said a problem in its flight processing system had been resolved, although its effects persisted, causing delays at 15 UK airports and elsewhere.
According to Reuters, airlines and airports were working to clear a major backlog of delayed flights, while further delays and cancellations were expected at Heathrow Airport today.
London’s Heathrow, Stansted and City airports, along with Manchester, Birmingham, Gatwick and airports in Scotland, had reported disruptions to flight operations because of the technical fault.
More than 1,000 flights were cancelled due to the problem, with multiple flights cancelled on Tuesday and Wednesday. The recovery of normal schedules was expected to take time as large numbers of aircraft and crew remained stranded at different locations.
The report said Tuesday’s technical fault affected 4,000 domestic and international flights, while more than 1,300 flights were cancelled. Passengers remained stranded for hours on aircraft, runways and in airport terminals. Flight-tracking website Flightradar24 said the technical problem had disrupted air traffic across the country.
