Unmetered Electricity Connections To Be Regularized

Public sector departments will complete a joint survey and verification of all unmetered, and direct electricity connections in collaboration with MEPCO within four weeks. Subsequently, demand notices will be issued, followed by the installation of meters after the payment of outstanding dues.

This decision was made at a high-level meeting chaired by NAB Multan Director General to address the long-standing issue of unmetered electricity consumption by WASA, PHA, Municipal Corporation Multan, and District Council within MEPCO Multan Circle.

MEPCO Chief Executive Officer Gul Muhammad Zahid, WASA Managing Director Faisal Shaukat, PHA Managing Director Waseem Hassan, chief officers of Municipal Corporation Multan and District Council, and senior NAB officials attended the meeting.

According to MEPCO records, 185 out of 421 electricity connections of the four public institutions were unmetered. The meeting reviewed the use of direct electricity through emergency-installed motors by WASA, beautification projects of PHA, and streetlights and electricity arrangements for special occasions by the Municipal Corporation and District Council.

The participants emphasized that proper metering is crucial for accurate measurement of consumption, transparent billing, and improved financial discipline. NAB Multan Director General directed all institutions to ensure coordination and timely implementation. He stated that accurate metering, transparent billing, and timely payment should replace reliance on unmetered consumption and estimated billing.

NAB Multan will facilitate inter-departmental coordination and monitor progress regularly. All concerned departments will submit compliance reports, with the next review meeting scheduled after approximately four weeks.
