Upper Chitral Journalists Urged To Support Development Efforts

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 5th Sep, 2026) Deputy Speaker Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Suraya Bibi has urged the journalist community of Upper Chitral to play a constructive role in the development of the district by highlighting public issues responsibly and discouraging negative attitudes, unverified reports, and baseless propaganda.

Addressing the oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected cabinet of the Upper Chitral Press Club at the historic Jirga Hall of the Provincial Assembly on Saturday, she said:

“The government, people, and media would have to work together to put the remote and underdeveloped district on the path to sustainable development.”

Suraya Bibi congratulated the newly elected office-bearers and expressed hope that journalists would highlight public grievances in a balanced and responsible manner while also effectively informing the people about ongoing development projects and government initiatives.

She noted that Upper Chitral was entering a new phase of development, with work underway on various projects, including restoration of roads, bridges, water channels, and other basic infrastructure damaged by recent floods.

The Deputy Speaker highlighted the establishment of a nursing college and an FM radio station, along with construction of major roads, as important milestones for the district, creating better opportunities for education, employment, communication, and access to basic facilities.

She emphasized that media is an essential pillar of society and journalists have a responsibility not only to identify public problems but also to highlight positive activities and development work, contributing to stronger communication between the government and the people.

The ceremony was attended by members of the newly elected cabinet, Chairperson of the Department of Journalism at the University of Peshawar, Dr Mehnaz Gul, Peshawar Press Club President Riaz Khan, Additional Inspector General Establishment Khalid Khan, Additional Secretary Hayat Shah, former Minister for Minority Affairs Wazirzada, and other prominent personalities.
