US Announces Over $150 Million in Support for Pacific Islands’ Economic Prosperity, Energy Security

WASHINGTON, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / WAM – 02nd Sep, 2026) The US has announced over $150 million in support for Pacific Islands.
At the Pacific Islands Forum Partners Dialogue in Palau, Deputy Secretary Christopher Landau revealed this commitment, directly engaging with Pacific Islands leaders and ministers to strengthen partnerships. He also announced new US-funded projects aimed at fostering economic growth and energy security for both Americans and Pacific Islanders.
In collaboration with Congress, the Department of State intends to provide $60 million to assist Pacific Islands countries in addressing the global energy crisis. This includes expanding fuel storage capacity and stabilizing grids.
The US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA), utilizing funding from the US Department of State, will enhance energy security through a feasibility study for upgrading Tonga’s port facilities, fuel storage, pipeline infrastructure, and market-oriented regulatory practices.
