US Envoys in Moscow Ahead of Ukraine Talks
The US is sending high-level negotiators, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, to Moscow, with a proposed plan to end the war in Ukraine. This development comes after months of failed peace efforts from the US and its allies.
A motorcade carrying Witkoff and Kushner arrived at the Kremlin, and they are expected to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Trump revealed that the envoys would be presenting a proposal to conclude the war.
Both Russia and Ukraine have agreed to a temporary halt in strikes on each other's capital cities during the US delegation's visit.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed his conversation with the US envoys and stated that they have already started working with the Russian side. He added that a planned diplomatic engagement in Kyiv involving the US team has been approved.
"Ukraine is ready to refrain from strikes on Moscow, and we expect the Russians to do the same regarding Kyiv," Zelenskyy said.
Russian state media reported that Putin had ordered a three-day pause in strikes on Kyiv due to the US visit.
The US envoys, who have previously visited Russia, are scheduled to meet both Putin and Zelenskyy separately. It remains unclear how they will travel from Moscow to Kyiv, as Ukraine's airspace has been closed since the February 2022 invasion.
