US Military Claims Success in Protecting Ships, "Permanently Disables" and "Completely Destroys" Iranian-Linked Tankers
The US military has announced it has taken decisive action against Iran, stating they have hit three oil tankers linked to the country after ballistic missiles were launched towards their warships.
US Central Command (Centcom) revealed on Saturday that they had successfully avoided multiple attacks from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targeting a US aircraft carrier and guided-missile destroyer. They reported no American personnel harmed in the incident.
In a statement, Admiral Brad Cooper, Centcom's commander, strongly responded to the IRGC's actions: "If you shoot at two of our ships, we will impose an even higher economic cost—taking out three of yours." He further threatened to destroy Iran's limited oil fleet if necessary to defend American forces.
These strikes come following renewed tensions between the US and Iran, escalating from previous weeks' calm. The recent conflict began with wide-ranging strikes by both sides in February, leading to a period of marine traffic disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.
