US Journalist Arif Usmani Honoured at KPC
US-based journalist Arif Afzal Usmani remarked on Thursday that the trend of the media has undergone a massive change over the years, a hallmark of scribes globally. He shared these thoughts during a reception held in his honour at the Karachi Press Club (KPC).
Arif Usmani, Chief Editor of Daily Asia Tribune, who has been based in New Jersey for 16 years, illuminated various aspects of his career spanning over 40 years as a broadcaster and journalist. He recalled his beginnings at Radio Pakistan with the programme Khel Kay Maidan Se, produced by the legendary Azeem Sarwar, who groomed numerous media industry leaders.
Usmani, who debuted on Radio Pakistan with this programme, shared his early experiences alongside colleagues. Later, he contributed to the sports and showbiz pages of Daily Hurriyet, under the leadership of Syed Sajid Ali Sajid.
He noted the dramatic changes in journalism with the advent of new technologies.
Ehsan Qureshi, former Joint Secretary of KPC, conducted the event, narrating Usmani’s rise from enthusiastic young sports broadcaster to editor of a daily newspaper, highlighting his hard work and perseverance.
KPC President, Fazil Jamili, and Secretary, Muhammad Aslam Khan, welcomed and commended Arif Usmani’s contributions to journalism and broadcasting. They promised to continue inviting senior journalists to share their professional experiences.
Sattar Javed and Tariq Aslam, co-hosts of the event, also praised Usmani’s services and wished him success in future endeavours. The ceremony was attended by numerous senior journalists, former colleagues, and friends.
