The Modi government has deployed troops in the state following clashes between protesters and police, with 21 people arrested.
DELHI (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 28th Oct, 2026) Violent protests have erupted in India’s Arunachal Pradesh against the construction of a hydropower dam, prompting the deployment of troops.
According to a report, protests in the Siang Valley, bordering Tibet, turned violent last week, leading to clashes with police and the arrest of at least 21 people.
India plans to construct the 11,200-megawatt Siang Upper Multipurpose Project dam in the Siang Valley. Protests against the proposed dam project in the Siang area of Himachal Pradesh have reportedly continued for two years.
According to the report, local residents have announced that they will continue protesting until the proposed hydropower project is cancelled. There are fears that construction of the dam would completely submerge 27 villages, while another 40 to 50 villages would be affected.
