Wajiha Qamar Visits NBF, Inaugurates Quaid-e-Azam and Iqbal Corners
ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Aug, 2026) Minister of State for Federal education and Professional Training, Wajiha Qamar, inaugurated newly established Quaid-e-Azam and Iqbal Corners during her visit to the National Book Foundation (NBF).
On the occasion, she stated that this initiative is part of the vision of Federal Minister for Planning and Development, Professor Ahsan Iqbal, to commemorate the 150th birth anniversaries of Allama Muhammad Iqbal and Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah at the national level in a befitting manner, and to effectively convey the thoughts and ideals of these great leaders to the younger generation.
She emphasized that such intellectual and cultural corners play a vital role in highlighting Pakistan’s national heritage, intellectual traditions, and the message of its founders.
The minister also toured the National Book Museum, the Indonesian Corner, and various departments of the Foundation. While observing rare collections of books, ancient Qur’anic manuscripts, and creative works preserved in the Book Museum, she termed them an important part of Pakistan’s scholarly and cultural heritage. She also expressed keen interest in the special Qur’an section, the Sufi Corner, and exhibitions dedicated to great poets and writers. She remarked that such scholarly corners and rare collections inspire young people towards reading, research, and intellectual curiosity.
The minister appreciated NBF’s efforts in promoting books and preserving intellectual heritage.
Later, Managing Director NBF Dr. Kamran Jahangir gave her a detailed briefing on the new National Curriculum, expected to be implemented from March 2027. The briefing covered strategies for textbook development, improving quality standards, collaboration with Pakistani publishers, publishing high-quality books, and providing students with effective intellectual and academic material.
It was stressed that academic standards, research, and students’ intellectual needs must be prioritized in curriculum development to foster reading habits, research awareness, and a strong connection with Pakistan’s scholarly and cultural traditions.
The minister praised NBF’s academic, literary, and publishing services, calling its efforts commendable. She expressed special interest in the publication of quality books, promotion of literary activities, and preservation of national intellectual heritage, assuring the Foundation of her full support.
Dr. Khan Farhan Riffat, Secretary NBF, and Murad Ali Mohmand, Director HQ NBF were also present on this occasion.
