Wall Street Slips As Dow Drops 263 Points
UrduPoint (August 18, 2026)
NEW YORK: U.S. equities experienced a downturn on Monday, with major benchmark indices leading the decline. The S&P 500 lost 39.55 points, or 0.51%, settling at 7,746.21. Meanwhile, the Nasdaq Composite dropped 76.87 points, or 0.31%, ending at 26,652.29, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average dipped by 263.21 points, or 0.49%, closing at 53,469.20.
This market correction followed rising crude oil prices and higher Treasury yields, reigniting inflation fears and prompting concerns over sustained high-interest rates. The ongoing geopolitical tension in the Middle East and cautious sentiment ahead of corporate earnings reports also contributed to investor risk aversion.
