Emotional TV Plea for Cancer Research Leads to Meeting with PM
Swimmer Archie Goodburn, diagnosed with three inoperable brain tumours two years ago, made an emotional plea on BBC Breakfast for more investment in brain cancer research. This led to a meeting with Prime Minister Andy Burnham.
After the meeting, Burnham announced a new national brain cancer clinical lead and promised a review of brain cancer progress and action to get patients treatment sooner. Goodburn, 25, expressed gratitude, noting that all his requests had been "promised to some extent" but details needed further development.
Burnham described Goodburn an "inspiration to us all" and was "delighted" to welcome him to Downing Street.
