Background: Strait of Hormuz Tensions
The Strait of Hormuz is a key flashpoint in ongoing tensions between Iran and the United States. In recent days, commercial shipping through the waterway has declined significantly, while Iran has linked the complete reopening of the strait to its demands and a reduction in US military pressure.
Diplomatic efforts continue between Washington and Tehran over possible negotiations, a ceasefire, and the reopening of this vital maritime route.
