If no appropriate relief-oriented measures emerge in a meeting with the prime minister, the long march will resume from Multan in the first week of October, says the Jamaat-e-Islami chief.

Lahore, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th Sep, 2026) Jamaat-e-Islami chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said that the party had neither abandoned the field nor retreated, but was continuously giving genuine voice to the people. He urged the government to end its extravagant spending and political bribery and immediately provide relief to the public in electricity and petroleum prices.

Speaking in Lahore, he said various political and non-political circles were trying to create the impression that Jamaat-e-Islami had backed down, but such claims were contrary to reality. He stated that the party’s demands were very simple and clear, and that they were waiting for Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to return from his foreign tour.

Hafiz Naeemur Rehman strongly criticised government extravagance, noting that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz was purchasing a new aircraft for Rs11 billion, which reflected the rulers’ priorities and insensitivity. He observed that 25 million motorcyclists in the country were suffering from high petrol prices daily, while the government placed the burden of every failure on ordinary people. He urged the State Bank to significantly reduce the policy rate immediately to support business and economic activity.

The Jamaat-e-Islami chief levelled a serious allegation of political bribery against the government, claiming that members of the National Assembly were being rewarded with billions of rupees in funds and privileges in exchange for political loyalties, which amounted to open political bribery. He called on the government to end its lavish spending and formulate economic policies that could provide immediate and practical relief to disadvantaged sections of society.
