Peace in Afghanistan could enhance stability and development prospects in the region, while any attempt to destabilize Pakistan will be countered, according to Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Atta Tarar.
Tarar emphasized Pakistan's support for negotiations towards an acceptable and friendly solution in Afghanistan. He highlighted that peace in Afghanistan can foster stability and development regionally, countering efforts to destabilize Pakistan.
Addressing a ceremony in Islamabad on the Afghan situation and peace progress, Tarar described the scenario in Afghanistan as complex, requiring a lasting and sustainable solution. Pakistan, he stated, believes in peace, negotiations, and peaceful coexistence.
The federal minister revealed that Pakistan had dispatched multiple high-level delegations to Afghanistan to assist in resolving the issue, with talks also held in Istanbul and Doha. He urged the Afghan interim government to abandon its militant mindset and adopt a responsible state perspective.
He attributed many of Afghanistan's challenges to militant tendencies. With immense potential for trade and regional connectivity, Tarar suggested that peace could unlock trade routes from Central Asia into Pakistan. Furthermore, he noted, Central Asian nations could gain access to warm waters via Afghanistan.
Expressing concern over safe havens for terrorists and banned organizations in Afghanistan, Tarar emphasized the need to abandon militant ideologies for lasting peace. He highlighted a demographic gap where many young Afghans and a significant number of women are excluded from economic development opportunities, lacking basic rights.
Advocating for peaceful coexistence through the principle of "live and let others live," Tarar believed that peace serves as prosperity's foundation. A substantial divide exists between the Afghan people and their interim government, he said. The Afghans, he added, are entitled to education, assembly, freedom of association, and economic liberty. They deserve a voice in shaping their future, requiring the interim government to move beyond militant tendencies for the welfare of its citizens.
Tarar concluded that peace in Afghanistan could significantly contribute to stability and development across the region.
