Punjab faces a threat from incompetence, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz says in response to her controversial remark about Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
In London, Maryam Nawaz responded to a journalist’s question regarding the threat Punjab allegedly faces from KP:
"Punjab faces a threat from incompetence."
She also stated that she would give a thoughtful response on the creation of new provinces upon her return to Pakistan.
Punjab Information and Culture Minister Azma Zahid Bukhari defended Maryam Nawaz’s statement, arguing that criticism was unjustified. She emphasized that the focus should be on the shared responsibility to combat terrorism rather than provincialism or politics.
Bukhari highlighted that Punjab’s Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) actively monitors terrorist elements and banned organizations. The Chief Minister’s concern, she said, was regarding cross-border threats from terrorists and proxies.
She assured that Pakistan’s armed forces are capable of defending the country, adding that terrorism is not limited to any one province but requires a national strategy and coordination. Bukhari noted successful operations against criminal elements in Punjab’s riverine areas as an example of interprovincial collaboration.
