It is nearly 10 months since Jason Wilcox found himself in the spotlight after Ruben Amorim's post-match news conference at Leeds sparked his dismissal.
Amorim was incensed that Wilcox had subtly advised him to change tactics for the previous game against Wolves.
"I will do my job, and every department, the scouting department, the sporting director, needs to do theirs," said Amorim.
Less than 24 hours later, Amorim was sacked, and the spotlight turned to Wilcox's involvement.
Now, Wilcox is back in the crosshairs. This time, it's Lisandro Martinez aiming the criticism.
Although he may have misstated the job title, there was little doubt about Martinez's target. He spoke post-match following Atletico Madrid's 2-0 win over United, saying:
"I expect more from our technical director."
Martinez refused repeated attempts from post-match interviewer Peter Schmeichel to steer the conversation away from United's summer transfer window.
"We don't have the best squad at the moment compared to other top teams," said Martinez.
"I'm not going to close my mouth. We need more ambition. If we don't say the truth, nothing will change."
During the summer, BBC Sport was told by dressing room sources that United needed to sign more players than the three - Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans, Carlos Baleba - who eventually arrived.
Another source with knowledge of Old Trafford's inner workings describes the current situation as "a mess."
What triggered Martinez's outburst?
Martinez's contract expires at the end of the season. United hold the option to extend it by a further year.
By speaking out so strongly against senior club figures, was Martinez trying to ensure that option isn't exercised?
