WASHINGTON, 25th September, 2026 (WAM):- The World Bank Group has approved US$200 million in additional financing to support Colombia's response and recovery efforts following the earthquake that struck the country on August 10.
This funding complements a previous Development Policy Loan with a Catastrophe Deferred Drawdown Option (Cat DDO) for Disaster Risk Management, approved in February 2025 and fully disbursed. It provides budget support to assist the Colombian government in aiding affected communities and responding swiftly to large-scale adverse events.
"This additional financing from the World Bank demonstrates confidence in Colombia and its government's ability to manage challenging times responsibly," stated Miguel Gómez Martínez, Colombia's Minister of Finance and Public Credit. "We appreciate this support, which will enable us to provide resources to those impacted by the earthquake."
The operation aims to address reconstruction needs while strengthening Colombia's disaster risk management and financing frameworks.
"The operation strengthens Colombia's financial resilience towards disasters," said World Bank Group Representative in Colombia, Juan Martínez Álvarez. "It ensures that aid reaches affected communities quickly and equips institutions with tools to support recovery efforts."
