US Open 2026 Results: Alexander Zverev Beats Karen Khachanov to Reach Final
BBC Sport reports that Alexander Zverev defeated Karen Khachanov at the US Open, securing his place in a third consecutive Grand Slam final. The top seed displayed a commanding performance, winning 6-3 7-6 (9-7) 7-6 (8-6).
Zverev, who recently claimed the French Open title in June, is favored for the New York event after overcoming a long wait for a Grand Slam win. He reached the Wimbledon final in July but lost to Jannik Sinner in four sets.
In the upcoming final, Zverev will face either Ben Shelton or Frances Tiafoe, with their semi-final match scheduled for Friday night. The German athlete expressed his anticipation for a thrilling contest: "These two guys are crowd favorites and everyone loves them. Tonight will be an epic semi-final."
Zverev’s consistency this year has been remarkable, reaching all four Grand Slam semi-finals despite injuries to top players Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. He started the US Open slowly but has since regained his form, dropping just one set.
Against Khachanov, Zverev faced moments of pressure, saving two set points in the third set, but ultimately dominated the match. He praised his team’s humor, which helped him improve during the tournament.
In a tightly contested first set, Zverev broke Khachanov to lead 5-3 and subsequently served out the set. The second set went to a tie-break, won by Khachanov after saving a set point. However, Zverev regained control in the decider, winning another tie-break to seal his victory.
This marks Zverev’s sixth major final appearance, leading to a celebratory embrace with Khachanov after the match. He is aiming for his second major title after losing to Dominic Thiem in the 2020 US Open final.
