Political Tensions and the 'Reset Plan'
In his latest column, Warraich expresses deep alarm over the establishment of new provinces, political tensions, and the strained relationship between the incumbent government and the establishment. He warns that the situation is rapidly escalating towards a confrontational outcome.
Warraich highlights the reckless approach of the ruling circles, who, accompanied by their supporters, openly advocate for sacrificing lives in the name of reform. This, he argues, signifies the preparation for a fight, with "sticks and batons" ready to be used. Conversely, the opposition and critics stand ready to endure these blows.
Challenges to Democratic Processes
The columnist criticizes the recent legislation through a referendum rather than through the elected assemblies formed after the 2024 elections. This, he suggests, indicates a lack of acceptance for these assemblies as legitimate representatives of the people. He proposes that, if this precedent is accepted, a referendum should be held for every constitutional amendment, followed by approval from the assemblies.
Warraich describes a scenario where both the opposition and the ruling circles face constant "strikes" on their "beds," representing their political positions, but they remain powerless to react. He emphasizes that the establishment's primary concern is their own agenda, disregarding the importance of others—friends, allies, or opponents.
He further warns that the "reset plan" might inadvertently lead to the overthrow of the entire system, causing significant losses to the ruling circles. The illusion of repairing the system through the Prime Minister's efforts has dissipated, and there is a concern that untrained politicians might cause more harm than good.
