106 Km Of Old Water Pipelines Being Replaced In Rawalpindi: Commissioner
RAWALPINDI, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 1st Sep, 2026) Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Salman Ghani reviewed progress on a major water supply improvement project involving the replacement of 106 kilometers of old pipelines and the laying of a new 38-kilometer distribution network.
During a meeting at his office, he instructed relevant departments to expedite development works and ensure timely completion of all project components. He emphasized that no compromise would be made on quality, following special instructions from Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
Salman highlighted the government’s priority for providing clean drinking water and efficient sewerage and drainage systems. He directed authorities to carefully plan drainage schemes, considering not only directly associated drains but also their disposal arrangements and interconnected drains to minimize blockage risks.
The meeting was informed that the project includes:
- 12 tube wells, with 9 already completed
- Four ground storage tanks and one overhead reservoir
- Seven water bowsers, three loader rickshaws, three manhole cleaning machines, six dumpers, and one tractor trolley for efficient maintenance.
- 87 kilometers of new sewerage infrastructure
- A 1.9-kilometer drain to improve urban drainage
- Two additional water storage tanks scheduled to commence shortly
With a deadline of November 27, 2027, the Commissioner emphasized a comprehensive plan and timely completion within the given timeframe.
