15,256 Women Trained By Lahore Traffic Police Driving Schools: CTO
LAHORE, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – August 29, 2026) The City Traffic Police Lahore (CTPL) on Saturday organized a Women’s Scooter Walk at Liberty Market as part of its ongoing efforts to promote women’s mobility, confidence and independence under the vision of Chief Minister (CM), Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
The event was organized under the Women on Wheels initiative and featured women who had successfully completed motorcycle and scooter riding training at Lahore Traffic Police Driving Schools.
CTO Lahore Syed Abdul Raheem Shirazi and SP Headquarters Fakhar Bashir Raja participated in the activity and appreciated the enthusiasm and achievements of the participating women.
Speaking on the occasion, CTO Lahore Syed Abdul Raheem Shirazi said the CTPL was committed to creating opportunities for women to acquire essential driving and riding skills and become more confident, independent and self-reliant. He stated that:
"Driving and riding skills provide women with greater mobility and enable them to independently pursue education, employment, and other social and professional opportunities."
According to the CTO, 24,420 candidates had so far received training at Lahore Traffic Police Driving Schools, including 15,256 women. Of these, 7,888 women were trained in car driving, while 7,178 received motorcycle and scooter riding training. He revealed that 1,472 women had received driving and riding training during the current year, reflecting the department’s continued focus on promoting women’s mobility and independence.
"Thousands of women have become confident drivers through Lahore Traffic Police Driving Schools," he added. "Our objective is not merely to teach women how to drive, but to equip them with the confidence and skills necessary to become more independent in their everyday lives."
CTO Syed Abdul Raheem Shirazi further mentioned that Women-to-Women training services were also being provided at scooter schools, offering female learners a comfortable and supportive environment to acquire riding skills. He highlighted the establishment of 12 driving schools across Lahore to facilitate women seeking training in car driving as well as motorcycle and scooter riding.
Under the Women on Wheels project, Lahore Traffic Police is providing free motorcycle and scooter riding training to women to enhance their mobility, confidence, and independence.
The CTO emphasized that empowering women can contribute significantly to positive social transformation, stating:
"An empowered woman contributes not only to her own progress but also to the development of her family and society."
He concluded by reiterating the CTPL’s commitment to expanding initiatives aimed at women’s empowerment, mobility, road safety, and skills development in line with the vision of the Punjab government.
