2,000 Kg Fake Spices, Custard Packaging Material Seized
PESHAWAR, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – September 10, 2026) The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority has seized more than 2,000 kilograms of spices, starch, packaging material and other items from a unit allegedly involved in packing counterfeit branded spices and custard here.
Acting on the directions of Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Food Dr Muhammad Israr Khan, food safety teams also disposed of 150 litres of adulterated milk and 415 kilograms of substandard meat during separate operations in Mansehra.
According to the authority’s spokesperson, a food safety team raided the packaging unit in Peshawar and confiscated around 2,000 kg of various items, including spices, starch, packaging material and rolls. Legal proceedings were initiated against those allegedly involved in the preparation and packaging of counterfeit and substandard food products.
In Mansehra, the food safety team established checkpoints at entry points of the district early in the morning and inspected vehicles transporting food items. Samples of milk and other food products were tested on the spot using a mobile food testing laboratory.
The team detected 150 litres of adulterated milk and disposed of it immediately. It also seized and destroyed 415 kg of substandard meat being transported from Punjab for supply to different areas of Mansehra.
The authority also initiated action against the owners for violating food safety and hygiene standards and imposed heavy fines.
Dr Muhammad Israr Khan welcomed the operations and said ensuring safe and quality food for the people was among the government’s top priorities. He stated that adulteration, production of counterfeit brands and sale of substandard food would not be tolerated.
He directed food safety teams to continue regular operations across the province and take strict legal action against those endangering public health.
He noted that mobile food testing laboratories were proving effective in detecting adulterated and substandard food at the spot and enabling timely action.
The special assistant also urged citizens to immediately report the sale of suspicious or substandard food to the relevant authorities to help ensure timely action for protection of public health.
