Speculation persists regarding significant changes at the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Sep, 2026) The chair of Pakistan's national cricket team selection committee, Aaqib Javed, has refuted reports suggesting his resignation or removal from the PCB.
In a brief statement to Dawn newspaper, Javed stated, "There is no resignation; this is fake news."
This comes after several media outlets, citing anonymous sources, reported that PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi was planning substantial changes to the board's administrative structure following Pakistan's recent subpar performance in cricket.
These reports indicated possible removals, including that of Aaqib Javed as selection committee chair and women's cricket team mentor Wahab Riaz following the Asian Games in Japan.
However, Javed has now unequivocally denied these reports, branding them as false.
A former Pakistani fast bowler and member of the 1992 World Cup-winning squad, Javed has played a pivotal role in key PCB decisions over the past two years.
In addition to his role as selection committee chair, he also serves as the director of high performance. He has faced criticism for recurring changes to the coaching staff and team captains.
Major decisions and changes to the team during Pakistan's recent tour of England, including mid-series adjustments, have been linked to his position.
After Pakistan suffered a 0-3 whitewash in the Test series against England, losing the second Test at Lord’s and seeing coaches Sarfaraz Ahmed and Umar Gul replaced, the PCB sent seven players back home.
The team's drop to last place in the World Test Championship points table further exacerbated the situation.
Selection panel member Misbah-ul-Haq subsequently resigned. However, Javed had already declared his intent to remain in his post.
Javed had also previously defended decisions made during the Test series against England, attributing the team's failure to a lack of competitive spirit and calling for a shift in approach.
According to recent reports, white-ball coach Mike Hesson's willingness to take charge of the Test team might be another factor influencing the PCB's reconsideration of its administrative structure.
