Abu Dhabi Chamber’s Legislation Committee Records 233% Surge in Referrals
The Abu Dhabi Chamber’s Committee for the Review of Government Laws and Legislation has witnessed a significant increase in its workload, processing 40 legislative and regulatory referrals in the first half of 2026, compared to 12 in the same period last year – a remarkable 233% surge.
Of these referrals, 70% underwent initial review while 30% progressed to further stages, highlighting the committee’s active involvement in shaping legislative initiatives. The committee submitted recommendations focusing on:
- Strengthening legal and regulatory frameworks
- Improving governance
- Refining procedures and penalties
- Balancing regulatory objectives with private sector needs
These recommendations target areas including:
- Commercial companies
- Non-profit organizations
- Family businesses
- Share and ownership structures
- Company transitions between free zones and the mainland
- Electronic commercial records and data
- Auctions
- Consumer protection
- Anti-commercial fraud measures
- Real estate
- Higher education and scientific research.
Ali bin Harmal Al Dhaheri, Head of the Abu Dhabi Chamber’s Committee for the Review of Government Laws and Legislation, remarked on the committee’s evolving role:
