"Abuse from Liverpool fans hurts – Alexander-Arnold" (BBC Sport, Jude Winter)
After leaving Liverpool for Real Madrid last summer, Trent Alexander-Arnold reveals he still receives abuse from supporters. Despite understanding their disappointment, he hopes for "a degree of understanding" about his decision to leave.
"The booing and disappointment from Liverpool supporters is something I’m absolutely able to shoulder… But I hope one day there’ll be a degree of understanding…"
Alexander-Arnold continues to support his boyhood club, watching every game and emphasizing that "Liverpool will always have a place in my heart." He notes the disparity between online abuse and interactions with fans in person.
"Not a single interaction I’ve had in person reflects the sort of stuff you get online… This isn’t me saying everyone in Liverpool is fine with me leaving the club – of course they aren’t."
He also expresses his disappointment about missing out on the World Cup, stating he was "gutted" when not selected by Thomas Tuchel. Alexander-Arnold remains determined to return to international duty.
