Acting President Gilani Stresses Respect For Humanity, Promoting Peace, Interfaith Harmony

ISLAMABAD, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 8th Sep, 2026) Acting President Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Tuesday called for strengthening tolerance, respect for humanity, peace and interfaith harmony in the country, urging all segments of society to work together for a peaceful, united and strong nation.

Addressing the International Interfaith Peace Conference titled “Pakistan’s Role in Promoting Global Peace, Interfaith Harmony, Respect for Humanity and Promotion of the Paigham-e-Pakistan Narrative,” he stated that national security and national unity are inseparable.

The event was organized by the Interfaith Council for Peace and Harmony and Majlis Ulma-e-Pakistan.

Gilani emphasized the crucial roles scholars, religious leaders, parliament, media, civil society, and especially youth, play in achieving this objective. He called for transforming the Constitution from a mere document into a national commitment that makes tolerance, respect for humanity, peace, patience, acceptance, and interfaith harmony integral to daily life.

“Let us all renew our pledge today that we will build Pakistan not with hatred, but with love,” he declared, adding that Pakistan craved peace and was ready to shoulder its responsibilities in this regard.

The Acting President affirmed that Pakistan would continue contributing to a strong, united, and peaceful nation. He also paid tribute to the martyrs and veterans who had sacrificed for the defense and security of the country.

He reminded the audience that Pakistan had faced terrorism, extremism, and violence for decades, with its security forces and armed forces consistently striving to defeat hostile elements and terrorist groups. Referring to operations against terrorism, including Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos, he highlighted their determination to protect Pakistan’s peace and security.

Gilani explained that while defense is a necessity for Pakistan, peace remains its ultimate destination. He stressed that strengthening defense aimed to safeguard sovereignty, ensure regional stability, and protect the welfare of the people, not promote war.

Pakistan, he added, had consistently supported dialogue, reconciliation, and peaceful solutions on the international stage, playing a responsible role in de-escalating tensions during significant regional conflicts.

The Acting President also emphasized the protection of minority rights, describing it as both a constitutional responsibility and a religious, moral, and national duty. He noted that Pakistan’s Constitution guarantees social equality, religious freedom, and fundamental rights to all citizens.

He acknowledged the valuable contributions of minority communities to Pakistan in various fields including education, health, defense, politics, economy, and social service.
