Agreement Reached With Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Joint Opposition in Senate, NA: Barrister Gohar

The consultative meeting also discussed convening an All-Parties Conference and considered key issues, including the creation of new provinces – Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri.

Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan has said that an agreement was reached with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on forming a joint opposition in the Senate and National Assembly.

Speaking to journalists after meeting Maulana Fazlur Rehman in the Federal capital, Barrister Gohar said the opposition would adopt a joint strategy inside Parliament and all political parties would be taken into confidence on important national issues.

He said discussions were held with Maulana Fazlur Rehman regarding a joint opposition, adding that an agreement on establishing a joint opposition in the Senate and National Assembly had already been reached. He said today’s meeting was the first regarding the joint opposition and had been encouraging.

Barrister Gohar said it had been decided to take all parties into confidence on national issues. He added that an All-Parties Conference (APC) would be convened on the issue of provinces and other important matters. Consensus consultations would also be held through the joint opposition platform regarding Assembly sessions and prisoners’ issues.

Barrister Gohar said the future course of action would be decided through the united opposition platform and meetings of the joint opposition would continue in the future.

On the other hand, JUI Secretary-General Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri said they welcomed the opposition’s arrival. He said the consultative meeting also discussed convening an All-Parties Conference, while various important matters, including the creation of new provinces in the country, came under consideration.

Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri said the APC would discuss the wave of unrest in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, terrorism and other issues. He said efforts would be made for the opposition to play its role in addressing the problems currently facing the country.
