Ahsan Calls For Consensus-based Review Of National Curriculum Framework 2026

Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Professor Ahsan Iqbal, on Tuesday called for a high-level committee to undertake a comprehensive review of the National Curriculum Framework 2026. He emphasized the need for consensus among all political parties, members of provincial assemblies, and stakeholders regarding the framework.
These remarks were made while chairing the first meeting of the Steering Committee of the Danish school Authority, which reviewed:
- The authority’s restructuring
- Human resource requirements
- Financial implications
- Governance and administrative structure
The meeting also considered the five to 10-year financial sustainability of Danish schools, teachers’ training, and a roadmap for implementing proposed reforms.
Ahsan Iqbal directed that the National Curriculum Framework 2026 be sent to the Prime Minister for a detailed review so he could constitute a formal committee to examine it and prevent future issues. He reiterated the importance of a broad-based consensus on the framework.
During the meeting, the Education Secretary briefed the committee that the Danish School model provided free education to underprivileged students, covering schooling, boarding, meals, and other facilities.
The minister noted that these schools, established in underdeveloped and disadvantaged areas, aimed to transform the future of those communities by providing quality education comparable to elite institutions like Aitchison College. He also directed that teacher recruitment should adhere to a student-teacher ratio for effective resource utilization and quality education.
The Steering Committee instructed authorities to reassess staffing requirements of Danish Schools, considering actual needs and the student-teacher ratio. The meeting reviewed the financial impact and long-term sustainability of the Danish School Authority, along with measures to improve governance and strengthen its administrative framework.
Ahsan Iqbal emphasized the need for:
- Institutional reforms
- Effective human resource management
- A sustainable financial model
to ensure continuous quality education for deserving students. He confirmed that the Danish School initiative aimed to provide opportunities for quality education to children from disadvantaged backgrounds, empowering them to contribute meaningfully to society.
