Airbnb Updates Rules to Limit Guest Chores
BBC News
Airbnb has revised its guidelines to clarify expectations for both hosts and guests, focusing on seven standard house rules and reasonable requests.
The new rules explicitly state that guests should not be asked to perform tasks typically handled by a cleaner, such as:
- Washing dishes
- Stripping beds
Airbnb emphasizes that these rules will be clearer and easier to manage for both parties, with exceptions possible in certain circumstances, like local water restrictions.
Guests are required to pay a cleaning fee, and hosts remain in control of their rules, though any requests outside the guidelines may be flagged and appealed.
This change comes in response to guest complaints about unreasonable chores, with videos of hosts inspecting rentals for minor infractions gaining attention on TikTok.
While some hosts defend their strict standards, the new rules aim to promote a more transparent and fair experience for all.
They will be enforced for reservations booked on or after November 20.
