Allegations of Heavy Police Presence and Hasty Burial at PTI Worker Ishtiaq Khan’s Funeral
UrduPoint reports emerging allegations of police interference and tight security during the funeral of PTI worker Ishtiaq Khan, who died after being burned by boiling oil during a claimed police raid on 12 Rabi-ul-Awwal.
According to details shared on social media, a large contingent of police was present at the site under the supervision of Iqbal Town SP Sidra. Journalist Muhammad Umair claimed that:
- The body was kept outside the home for only 10 minutes, preventing relatives from distant areas from attending.
- The funeral and burial were conducted hastily under police supervision.
- Citizens attempting to record videos or take pictures were harassed by police.
- No central PTI leader attended the funeral.
It is recalled that Ishtiaq Khan, a PTI activist, suffered severe burns during a police raid on Eid Milad-un-Nabi ﷺ and died after 18 days of critical care at Mayo Hospital.
PTI leader Zubair Khan Niazi confirmed Khan's death in a social media statement, describing his injuries as serious following the incident on 12 Rabi-ul-Awwal. Despite doctors' efforts, he could not recover.
