Former minister Fawad Chaudhary expressed his disappointment over the treatment given to Junaid Akbar, describing him as an asset to any country. In a post on X, Chaudhry accused those responsible of paving the way for Pakistan's destruction.
He stated that individuals like Junaid Akbar, who are not corrupt and compassionate towards Pakistanis, are being ousted from politics. Chaudhry referred to Akbar's comments regarding turning Islamabad into Somnath, after which a case was registered against him under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA).
Akbar, the provincial president of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), made these remarks during a workers' convention in Mardan. He promised to reach Islamabad through various routes and "turn it into Somnath."
According to an FIR registered with the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), Akbar's statements were deemed threatening, inciting fear and panic among the public. The case was filed under Sections 9, 10, and 11 of the PECA Act.
