Apple Releases Urgent Security Update For iPhone, iPad and Mac

Muhammad Irfan | August 19, 2026

Apple has released iOS 26.6.1 on August 17, addressing 29 security vulnerabilities, including:

  • A critical ImageIO flaw enabling arbitrary code execution via crafted images.
  • A Telephony bug allowing network attackers to bypass IPSec authentication and intercept traffic.

This update also covers iPadOS 26.6.1, macOS 26.6.2, and visionOS 26.6.1, with around a third of the fixes attributed to OpenAI's Codex Security team.

The rapid release, just 11 days after an emergency macOS patch for another vulnerability, reflects Apple's accelerated update cadence in response to AI-powered hacking concerns. It comes ahead of the expected iOS 27 launch later this year.

Simultaneously, Apple released the first Release Candidates for macOS Tahoe 26.7 and macOS Sequoia 15.8, suggesting continued security support for older operating systems still in active use.

While release notes are sparse, macOS Sequoia 15.8 simply states: "This update provides important security fixes and is recommended for all users."
