Appointment Of Vice Chancellors At Five Major Punjab Medical Universities Stalled

Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider has decided to interview the candidates instead of signing the summary sent by the provincial government.
LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 10th Sep, 2026) The appointment of vice chancellors at five major medical universities in Punjab has been stalled, as Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider has decided to meet all shortlisted candidates before signing the summary sent by the provincial government.
According to sources, the Punjab governor will personally interview three shortlisted candidates for each university. He has summoned all the candidates for a meeting on Monday.
Following approval from the Punjab chief minister and the provincial cabinet, five names had been proposed for the vice chancellorships of the five universities.
Sources in the Governor House said the Punjab governor would not sign the summary without meeting the candidates. Sardar Saleem Haider stated that if he had reservations about any candidate, he could raise an objection to the Punjab government’s summary. According to him, he has 15 days to decide on the summary.
The Punjab government had sent summaries proposing candidates for vice chancellors of King Edward Medical University and Fatima Jinnah Medical University. The names for vice chancellors of the University of Health Sciences, Faisalabad Medical University, and Rawalpindi Medical University were also forwarded to the Punjab governor.
