Australian High Commissioner honors three SAU women researchers with Meryl Williams Fellowship certificates.

HYDERABAD, ( APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 10th Sep, 2026 ) Three women faculty members and researchers of Sindh Agriculture University (SAU), Tandojam have successfully completed the prestigious Meryl Williams Fellowship, in recognition of which Australian High Commissioner to Pakistan, Timothy Kane presented them with fellowship certificates.
The recipients are:
- Prof. Dr. Jameela Soomro, Department of Veterinary Physiology and Biochemistry
- Associate Professor Dr. Mahmooda Buriro, Department of Agronomy
- Assistant Professor Dr. Saima Kalsoom Babar, Department of Soil Science.
The fellowship is supported by the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) and aims to strengthen leadership, professional development, research capacity and networking opportunities for women agricultural researchers in Pakistan.
SAU spokesperson Gul Sher Lochi stated that during the fellowship period, the three SAU researchers participated in various professional development and leadership activities, gaining opportunities to enhance their research capabilities, exchange knowledge, develop professional networks, and explore avenues for future research collaboration.
SAU Vice Chancellor Engr Professor Dr Altaf Ali Siyal congratulated the three researchers on their achievement and emphasized that participation of women researchers in international professional and academic programs not only enhances their individual expertise but also contributes to strengthening research, innovation, and international collaboration at the university.
He further added that SAU is committed to providing its women faculty members and researchers with greater opportunities for professional growth, research, and international engagement, enabling them to contribute more effectively to the advancement of agriculture and related fields.
The three researchers expressed gratitude to SAU Vice Chancellor, ACIAR, and the Meryl Williams Fellowship program for providing them with valuable opportunities to further strengthen their professional and research skills.
