Awareness Seminar on Protection Against Harassment of Women at Workplace Held at IBA Public School Sukkur
A awareness seminar regarding protection of women against harassment at the workplace was organized by the Regional Office Sukkur at Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Public school Sukkur on Friday.
Objective
The objective of the seminar was to create awareness about the Protection Against Harassment of Women at the Workplace Act, 2010, under which a safe, dignified and harassment-free environment for women in organizations is ensured. Participants were briefed about:
- Harassment of women at the workplace
- Their rights
- Protection available
- Mechanism for redressal
Presiding Officer
The awareness seminar was presided over by consultant Muhammad Iqbal Arain, former District and Sessions Judge. He apprised participants about:
- Provisions of the Act
- Legal definition of harassment
- Responsibilities of employees and organizations
- Procedure for lodging complaints
- Role of the Inquiry Committee
- Punishments prescribed under the law.
Keynote Address
He urged participants to raise their voices against harassment without fear and make full use of the grievance redressal system provided in the law to seek justice.
Principal’s Welcome
Principal of IBA Public School Sukkur, Ali Gohar Chang, welcomed the team of the Provincial Ombudsman, emphasizing the importance of such awareness programs for establishing respect, equality, and a safe environment in institutions.
Institution of Provincial Ombudsman
Earlier, Syed Manzoor Hussain Shah briefed participants about the organizational structure, jurisdiction, objectives, and responsibilities of the institution of the Provincial Ombudsman, stating that it provides an effective, independent, and accessible forum for redressal of harassment-related complaints of working women.
Q&A Session
A question and answer session followed, where participants showed keen interest, asked various questions, and obtained information about different aspects of the law. They expressed their resolve to play an effective role in promoting an environment of respect, equality, and freedom from harassment in their institutions.
