Belgium Plans National Action Plan To Tackle Wildfires

Belgium has announced plans to develop a national action plan to enhance its capabilities in dealing with wildfires and climate-related crises, following the largest wildfire recorded in the country.

Interior Minister’s Statement

Interior Minister Bernard Quintin informed the Chamber of Representatives’ Interior Committee that a fire in the Hautes Fagnes nature reserve in eastern Belgium burned over 3,000 hectares of wetlands and pine forests, leading to evacuations before being contained.

Quintin emphasized that this incident should serve as a catalyst for strengthening efforts to tackle climate-related risks, particularly wildfires, which will be a key focus in the upcoming resilience plan. He also noted an increase in funding for civil protection, highlighting Belgium’s existing investments in equipment and ground resources.

Remember that, in the world of crisis management, adapting to climate challenges is paramount.
