Great Britain's Billie Jean King Cup Squad Faces Tough Test Against Czech Republic
"It's best not to underestimate us," says Harriet Dart, reflecting on Great Britain's (GB) upcoming match against the Czech Republic in the Billie Jean King Cup (BJK Cup) quarter-finals. But the British team is well aware of the challenge ahead.
On Tuesday, GB will face the Czechs in Shenzhen, China, from 10:00 BST, with the tie live on the BBC. The tight-knit squad comprises Dart, Katie Boulter, Sonay Kartal, Mika Stojsavljevic, and Jodie Burrage.
Despite GB's strong recent performance, reaching the semi-finals in three of the past four seasons, they are up against a formidable opponent. The Czech Republic boasts an impressive lineup featuring two top-10 players from the recent Finals tournament: Linda Noskova, the current Wimbledon champion, and Karolina Muchova, her beaten finalist opponent.
Marie Bouzkova has also had a successful year, winning two WTA titles and defeating players like Aryna Sabalenka and Madison Keys. In doubles, Bouzkova and Noskova formed an unstoppable pair in Cincinnati earlier this year. Katerina Siniakova, the current top-ranked women's doubles player with 12 Grand Slam titles to her name, is also expected to feature.
"I think naturally we are definite underdogs," Boulter admitted. "But that being said, a lot of pressure is on them... We've seen in this tournament before that people can make upsets."
The tie will be broadcast on the BBC Sport website and app, as well as on BBC iPlayer.
