BISP Chairperson Calls For Strengthening Democratic Institutions On World Democracy Day
ISLAMABAD, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 15th Sep, 2026) Chairperson Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), Senator Rubina Khalid, on Tuesday called for strengthening democratic institutions, empowering Parliament, and ensuring the supremacy of the Constitution, stating that continuity of democracy is crucial for a stable, prosperous, and welfare-oriented Pakistan.
In her message on the occasion of World Democracy Day, she extended greetings to democracy-loving people worldwide.
Senator Rubina Khalid emphasized that the vision of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah was to build a democratic, parliamentary, and people-centric Pakistan. She noted that Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto laid a solid foundation for the democratic system in Pakistan by introducing the Constitution of 1973, while Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto fought historically for democracy, people’s rights, and women’s empowerment.
She recalled that both Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto made immense sacrifices for the supremacy of democracy. She highlighted the unforgettable contributions of the Pakistan Peoples Party in Pakistan’s democratic journey.
The BISP chairperson defined democracy as a system aimed at empowering people, ensuring equal opportunities, and guaranteeing fundamental rights, rather than merely casting votes. She claimed that BISP serves as a practical example of extending the benefits of democracy to deserving and vulnerable segments of society.
She further stated, "Democracy is the system in which the welfare of the common man remains at the center of state policies." Senator Rubina Khalid emphasized the need to strengthen democratic institutions, empower Parliament, and uphold the Constitution.
She assured that under the leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari and Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the Pakistan Peoples Party remains committed to protecting democratic values. She envisioned a Pakistan where women, youth, and vulnerable segments enjoy equal rights, as dreamed by Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto.
Concluding, she said, "Our struggle is for a Pakistan where every citizen has equal opportunities for equality, justice, dignity, and development." She reiterated that the continuity of democracy would ensure a bright and prosperous future for Pakistan.
