Liverpool have had a second £60m bid for winger Yankuba Minteh rejected by Brighton. Although talks between the clubs continue, Brighton are thought to be holding out for closer to £70m for the 22-year-old Gambian international.
This development follows Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola’s admission that his team lacks sufficient wingers for the season opener. However, Iraola expressed confidence in finding a solution before the transfer window closes.
Liverpool had previously rejection a £50m bid for Minteh this week. Minteh, who joined Brighton from Newcastle for £30m in 2024, is primarily a right-sided attacker and has scored 10 goals and provided nine assists in 73 appearances for the Seagulls.
The Reds are also exploring the possibility of signing Ibrahim Mbaye from Paris Saint-Germain. However, Bradley Barcola from PSG remains Iraola’s main transfer target as he seeks to bolster Liverpool’s wide attacking options.
"As a manager, this is an easy one for me," said Iraola when asked about the transfer window. "I wanted the players for the first day on 13 July – everyone here and all the positions doubled with top-level players… We have to adapt."
Since taking over from Arne Slot, Iraola has signed Victor Munoz for £34.5m, Ronald Araujo on loan from Barcelona, Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes for £60m (a deal agreed in January), and is finalizing Curtis Jones’ £30m move to Inter Milan.
