Business Community Must Be Involved in Policymaking: Governor Saleem

Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) President Faheem Ur Rehman Saigol met with Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan on Monday, where they discussed the promotion of industrial and business activities in the province, the challenges faced by industries, and measures to improve the business environment.
Governor Khan emphasized the importance of stakeholder involvement in policymaking for sustainable industrial development. He noted that decisions made without considering ground realities might not yield long-term results. The government, he said, is committed to comprehensive and consultative policymaking and will address the concerns of the business community.
The Governor expressed appreciation for the business community’s continued investment despite economic challenges, lauding it as a sign of patriotism. He assured that the concerns of industrialists would be brought to the attention of relevant senior authorities.
LCCI President Faheem Ur Rehman Saigol thanked the Governor, highlighting the Governor House’s prompt response to the business community’s concerns, which reflects the government’s dedication to resolving business-related issues.
He pointed out that over 1,400 industries operate in various industrial areas of Lahore, employing millions. However, these industries face high commercialization fees, administrative hurdles, and other challenges, raising concerns about their continuity.
Saigol called for converting existing industrial areas into formal industrial zones and significantly reducing commercialization fees to address these difficulties, ensuring the continuity of industrial and business activities, and safeguarding millions of jobs.
He emphasized the importance of involving the private sector in proposed industrial relocation plans, stating that no policy can succeed without the confidence and consultation of industrialists. Industries, he said, are established through years of investment and hard work, and decisions regarding their relocation should consider alternative facilities, business costs, infrastructure, and meaningful consultation with the business community.
