Carragher settles tax debt to avoid bankruptcy

Former Liverpool footballer Jamie Carragher avoids bankruptcy

BBC News reports that former Premier League footballer Jamie Carragher, 48, will not be made bankrupt after settling an unpaid tax bill with HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).

Judge Dismissal of Bankruptcy Petition

A bankruptcy petition was issued against Carragher in August, but Judge Nicholas Briggs dismissed the case at the Insolvency and Companies Court in London. HMRC's representative, Kevin Hassan, confirmed the debt had been settled, though no specific figure was disclosed in court—previously estimated at around £700,000 to £800,000.

Carragher's Football Career

Carragher, a Merseyside native, spent his entire professional career at Liverpool, retiring in 2013 after 737 appearances for the club. He has since become a sports pundit, appearing on Sky Sports and CBS Sports.
