In a rematch of last year’s Super Bowl, defending champions Seattle Seahawks came from behind to defeat the New England Patriots 13-10 in the opening game of the NFL season.

For the first time in a decade, the NFL season commenced with a Super Bowl rematch, where the ‘Dark Side’ Seahawks defense once again dominated, this time in a hard-fought victory over the Patriots.
The Patriots took an early 10-0 lead, with rookie tight end Eli Raridon scoring the game’s first touchdown in the second quarter. However, Seattle’s backup quarterback Drew Lock led a comeback, culminating in a 45-yard touchdown pass to Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
Seahawks cornerback Nehemiah Pritchett and safety Julian Love each recorded an interception in the final quarter, setting up kicker Jason Myers for field goals that put Seattle ahead. With just 21 seconds remaining, the Patriots attempted a game-winning drive but ended up turning the ball over on downs, securing Seattle’s victory.
Initial tests revealed that Seattle quarterback Sam Darnold did not fracture his hip, though he left the game during the opening drive with an injury.
Week one continues with the NFL’s inaugural regular-season game in Australia, where the Los Angeles Rams face the San Francisco 49ers in Melbourne on Thursday (01:35 BST, Friday).
