Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei has stated that using the events of 9/11 to justify war against Iran is highly ridiculous. According to a press release, Baghaei emphasized that the individuals involved in 9/11 were not Iranians but U.S.-backed elements.
He argued that a "criminal" war cannot be legitimized through counterterrorism rhetoric alone. Furthermore, he noted the contradictions in the position presented by the U.S. Secretary of War during the 9/11 anniversary. He claimed that the so-called "war on terrorism" post-9/11 resulted in destruction in Afghanistan and Iraq.
