Citizens Welcome Rs100 Petrol Subsidy

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Sep, 2026) Citizens on Wednesday broadly welcomed the Prime Minister’s Special Fuel Relief Scheme, under which a Rs100 per litre subsidy is being provided on petrol for motorcycles, auto-rickshaws, motorcycle rickshaws, and cars up to 800cc. They described this initiative as much-needed relief amid rising fuel prices.

The APP spoke to several road users at different petrol stations following the implementation of the subsidy, who expressed satisfaction over the reduction in their fuel expenses.

  • Abdullah, a student of Information Technology University and a motorcycle user, stated at a PSO petrol station in Johar Town that he was happy with the subsidy as his university was far from home, and rising petrol prices significantly increased his commuting expenses. He believed the subsidized fuel would provide considerable support to students like him.

  • Salman, another motorcycle rider who works with ride-hailing applications, noted that higher fuel prices made it increasingly difficult for him to continue his work. He expressed relief over the subsidized petrol, which he said would help reduce his daily expenses and support his livelihood.

  • Sajid Ali, a government employee traveling in his 800cc car with his family, also appreciated the relief. He mentioned that he regularly used the car to pick up and drop his daughters to college and university, adding that high fuel prices had placed an additional burden on his household budget. The subsidized petrol, according to him, would make commuting more affordable.

Dr Ahsaan Zafar, President Anjuman-e-Naujawanan-e-Pakistan, praised the Prime Minister’s decision, stating that the relief measure provided a sense of satisfaction to the people. He also commended the government's efforts to de-escalate tensions in the Gulf, noting that the situation disturbed the entire world.

This scheme has been launched amidst global oil supply disruptions and geopolitical tensions, with the government aiming to support vulnerable sections through fuel subsidies. It has sparked discussions among economists and transport representatives regarding its fiscal implications and long-term viability.
