CM Orders Rescue and Relief Measures in Layyah River Erosion-Hit Areas

LAHORE, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 23rd Aug, 2026) Punjab Chief Minister (CM), Maryam Nawaz Sharif, on Sunday directed the administration to immediately provide relief and rescue services to families affected by river erosion in Layyah, while also ordering a thorough assessment of losses and measures to safeguard against future incidents.

On her instructions, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister (SACM), Shoaib Mirza, visited Mouza Samra Nasheeb in Layyah, inspected damaged areas, including homes, agricultural land, and other properties. He engaged with affected families to understand their challenges firsthand.

The CM has instructed the allocation of necessary machinery for rescue operations and requested officials from the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab and Irrigation Department to promptly reach the affected region. Arrangements have been made for the safe relocation of residents and their belongings to secure locations, along with essential supplies like food, shelter, and dry rations.

Moreover, a special committee has been established to assess losses incurred by farmers and affected families, and to present a comprehensive report. Maryam Nawaz has emphasized the removal of obstacles hindering relief efforts and has proposed long-term solutions to protect Mouza Samra Nasheeb from future river erosion.

SACM Shoaib Mirza assured that all available resources and required machinery were being mobilized for the assistance and safety of the affected people, adding that the situation in the impacted areas was being continually monitored.
