England has named its squad for the upcoming Rugby League World Cup, with some notable changes from previous expectations.
Jake Connor, despite a strong domestic season and being talked up by head coach Brian McDermott, has been left out of the final cut. The Leeds Rhinos half-back missed out on selection for last year's Ashes series as well.
In his place, Mikey Lewis from Hull KR has secured a spot in the team. Lewis' selection comes despite an inconsistent season, but he has convinced McDermott that he is a valuable addition to the half-back options, alongside captain George Williams and Harry Smith from Wigan Warriors.
