Trains across the UK have been cancelled after a power cut at train operator CrossCountry’s control centre. The power outage, which started in Birmingham on Saturday, has left many of the systems used to manage the railway unavailable.
Services across almost all its routes have been cancelled until further notice as the operator experiences "significant and unforeseen disruption".
Major routes affected include:
- Services between Manchester and Birmingham
- Routes from Leeds to York
- Cheltenham to Cardiff
- Glasgow to Edinburgh
Only the route between Peterborough, Cambridge, and Stansted Airport is expected to operate near-normally.
The company has apologised to affected passengers and said tickets are being accepted by other operators. Customers are entitled to Delay Repay compensation if their train is delayed by 30 minutes or more, or they can claim a refund for their journey.
