CS Calls Water Scarcity In Quetta Major Challenge, Stresses On Water Conservation & Effective Use Of Resources
QUETTA, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 11th Sep, 2026) Balochistan Chief Secretary (CS) Shakeel Qadir Khan on Thursday called water scarcity in Quetta a major challenge and emphasized on water conservation and effective use of available resources.
He made this statement while chairing a meeting here. A detailed review was conducted on the effective implementation of the Quetta Master Plan, shifting of dairy farms established within the city limits, better utilization of water resources, implementation of building codes, and the medical reimbursement system for government employees.
The meeting was attended by representatives from the Urban Planning and Development Department (UP&D), district administration, and other concerned authorities.
It was noted that dairy farms within urban limits cause issues like:
- Waste disposal
- Sanitation and hygiene
- Human and animal health
- Traffic congestion
- Environmental pollution
In light of these problems, initial proposals for shifting dairy farms outside the urban limits were presented. These included estimates for:
- Land availability
- Logistics
- Expected costs
The Chief Secretary directed institutions to create a comprehensive and feasible implementation plan, outlining:
- A phased transfer schedule
- Responsible institutions
- Necessary facilities
- Logistics
- A clear timeline
He also instructed all stakeholders to be involved in the process to ensure smooth implementation.
Regarding the Quetta Master Plan, the Chief Secretary:
- Praised the available data and planning process.
- Emphasized on ensuring basic facilities for urban residents while maintaining a balance between industrial, agricultural, and residential zoning.
- Stated that providing Quetta with a clean, safe, orderly, and sustainable urban environment is a top priority of the government.
- Directed institutions to take timely steps under a coordinated strategy for Master Plan implementation.
Additionally, the Chief Secretary:
- Highlighted water scarcity as a major challenge
- Appreciated initiatives to establish recharge wells and reuse ablution water from mosques for agricultural purposes (following proper procedures).
- Directed more practical steps be taken in this regard.
He also emphasized on indiscriminate implementation of building codes, stating that no negligence would be tolerated.
