CTPL Launches Pilot Project For Rehabilitation Of Beggars

City Traffic Police Lahore (CTPL) launched a pilot project for the rehabilitation of beggars, providing them with vocational training and opportunities for dignified employment and self-employment.
According to a spokesperson on Thursday, Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi said that screening of the first 10 families for the pilot project had been completed. In collaboration with the Punjab Small Industries Corporation (PSIC), selected individuals would be offered vocational training, employment opportunities, and facilities to establish small businesses.
The PSIC would provide easy loans of Rs500,000 each to selected deserving individuals for setting up their businesses.
He stated that "Jhuggi Schools" would also be established in settlements across Lahore to facilitate the rehabilitation and education of children living in makeshift settlements.
The CTO mentioned that Traffic Police is actively working with welfare organizations and establishing contacts with various institutions to impart skills to women and children from vulnerable families. In collaboration with welfare organizations, beauty courses and stitching and embroidery training will also be provided to transgender beggars and women.
"With the support of Alkhidmat Foundation volunteers, the process of mapping, research, and profiling of more beggars is underway," he added.
Shirazi emphasized that the project aims to free deserving people from begging and assist them in leading a dignified and self-reliant life. He noted that Traffic Police has taken action against over 4,500 beggars during the current year.
